Earlier this year, Google rolled out the upgraded Find My Device network to the masses. One of the main highlights of the feature is that it allows you to locate your phone even if it’s offline. In May, there were reports about the Find My Device network working on Pixel 8 hours after it switched off, the same is reportedly the case with the Pixel 9 series too.
You can locate the Pixel 9 series using the Find My Device network hours after it is switched off
Today, folks over at Android Authority confirmed that the Pixel 9 series supports the Find My Device’s ability to track switched-off devices. For the uninitiated, the Find My Device network uses Bluetooth and location proximity data from nearby Android devices, eventually improving the accuracy.
Because of the above reasons, the Find My Device network will come in handy for Pixel 9 users to locate their lost and switched-off devices hassle-free. The publication confirmed that the Pixel 9 lineup devices show a “Find phone if the battery runs out” notification. The notification further explains that if the “phone runs out of battery or is powered off, the Find My Device network can locate it for several hours.” This happens the very first time the devices run low on battery.
You can even customize the feature to work with different network types
It is worth noting that the Find My Device network remains enabled by default on the Pixel 9 series. And, it works using the recently stored locations or networks from “high-traffic areas” like busy streets, subways, or airports. However, you can choose the feature to work with the network in all areas too. In fact, there’s a setting for the same. We’ve explained how to enable the same below.
To enable the Find My Device network on your Pixel 9 series with networks in all areas, go to “Settings.” Next, head to “Security & Privacy.” Then, tap “Find My Device.” Next, navigate to the “Find your offline devices” page and choose the option that says “With network in all areas.”
If you want to disable the feature, you can do so from the same page by choosing the “Off” option. All that said, the Find My Device network requires Bluetooth and Location enabled to find a switched-off device. Therefore, you need to make sure to turn on them on your Google Pixel 9 series.
