Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 leak reveals key details and improvements

Qualcomm is not only working on its Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 flagship mobile SoC. The company would also soon launch a new hardware platform for mid-rangers under the “Snapdragon 7” lineup. However, a new leak has revealed key details of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 ahead of its official announcement.

The chip will be the direct successor to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 launched in September 2023. The company will keep its new and somewhat confusing naming scheme. Brands often use “s” in a product name to indicate that it is an upgraded version, so many might assume that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is one of the more powerful chips in the lineup. However, Qualcomm goes against the grain by using the “s” for the less powerful models. Therefore, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 will still be far ahead.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 leaked details suggest a solid upgrade

Having cleared that up, tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks on X) posted leaked marketing of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. The image shows multiple key specs and improvements of the new SoC. According to the report, the chip will offer 20% more CPU power and 40% more GPU power compared to its predecessor. While it will still be far from the most powerful chips on the market, there appears to be a noticeable upgrade. Plus, it is up to 30% better at AI processing and up to 12% more efficient than the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.

In the age of AI, even mid-range devices need to be prepared for it. So, the 7s Gen 3 NPU will have enough power to support on-device tasks like transcriptions and translations in multiple languages. For the gaming section, Qualcomm will integrate technologies like Variable Rate Shading (VRS) Pro, AFME, and Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0.

Among the leaked SoC specs also highlight native aptX Lossless Audio support, Bluetooth 5.4, and a Triple ISP to enable advanced camera features. There is still no official launch date for the company’s new mid-range chip. However, since its predecessor arrived in September 2023, we can expect a similar timeframe for the new model.
