Jannik Sinner won his third Masters title by defeating Frances Tiafoe 7-6 (7/4) 6-2 to win the Cincinnati Open.
The Italian is preparing in a great way for the US Open next week, awaiting a very competitive first set before the opening of the second match.
Tiafoe, who played first after losing the first set tiebreak, still made a strong impression during the second round match.
The American, who is ranked in the top 20, saved three match points before Sinner won his 15th ATP title of his career.
Sinner hit 29 winners, including 13 aces, and broke Tiafoe twice in the match.
Cincinnati is the fifth trophy of 2024 for the 23-year-old, who began the season with the Australian Open title in Melbourne.
“I'm happy, it was a very tough week,” Sinner said. “It was tough mentally, but I tried to do better.
“We and France were tired from the semi-final (Sunday) and there was a lot of tension.
“I'm happy that I kept my level in important moments. Learn the square situations.
“I had a lot of highs and lows, but that's normal. Great moments in every game I played well.”
Sinner enters the United States on August 26 as the favorite, more than 2,000 points ahead of world No. 2 Novak Djokovic.
“I'm confident, but it's important to recover to be ready for New York,” he said later in Italian.
“That's the main goal that's been highlighted in the United States. “I'm happy to be in the position I'm in. I'm ready to keep playing. I hope to show some good performances in New York.”
Sinner is the youngest Cincinnati Open champion since Andy Murray in 2008.
