Idoru P-1: Worry-free Backing Tracks at last?
Whether you’re a solo artist, singer-songwriter, or band, chances are that you use pre-recorded backing tracks to enhance your performance or bring in tracks from the studio production that would be difficult to recreate live on stage. Many musicians rely on laptops to achieve this, which aren’t really made for this task and can be a real pain to integrate into a live setup. They also have a reputation for crashing at the worst possible time.
The Idoru P-1 promises to put an end to these worries. The compact multi-channel audio and MIDI player is specifically designed to fire off backing tracks on stage. With a rugged enclosure built to withstand the rigors of the road, it sits on the floor just like an effects pedal. This means that you can easily control it with your feet while performing, instead of fiddling with the trackpad of your laptop. As an added bonus, this also makes your use of backing tracks much less obvious to the audience!
The Idoru P-1 can play up to six audio files in WAV format at once. It’s got six mono outputs and a flexible mixing and routing system, so you can create custom submixes. There’s also a stereo headphone output and an Aux input for connecting another audio source if needed. While you can edit playlists and configure the mixer and routing directly on the device, a convenient software application lets you set up everything ahead of time.
But there’s more. What if you also use MIDI to control synths, sync your drum machines, or even control the lighting? The Idoru can handle that, as well! You can configure it to play a MIDI file in sync with the audio backing tracks, which you can use to control anything that has a MIDI input. It also outputs MIDI clock to keep everything in sync. And just in case your whole show is controlled by a sequencer or you prefer to use the MIDI controller of your choice, you can also remote-control the P-1 itself via MIDI.
