Today was Google‘s big Made By Google event and if you happened to miss the live stream of the keynote where everything was shown off, we have you covered with a big roundup of all the day’s announcements that include the Pixel 9 and more. There was a lot Google had to show off, although much of it was admittedly already known about thanks to several leaks spanning the past couple of months.
With that said, none of it was actually official until today. And with the official announcements, you get a much better look at everything these new devices have to offer. Not just the designs and a handful of the specs. So let’s dive in and take a closer look at what Google has coming.
Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold
The biggest announcement was obviously Google’s newest phones. The Pixel 9 series. This includes the Pixel 9 which is likely to be one of the better options if you like more pocketable devices. While the Pixel 9 isn’t tiny by any means, it will no doubt fit easier in your pocket than the Pro, Pro XL, or Pro Fold models.
The downside is that it lacks the telephoto lens and some of the extra features. And if you like bigger screens, it may not be the one to go for. Luckily, if a bigger screen is what you’re after, there’s also the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The Pixel 9 Pro has a display size that’s closer to the Pixel 9, yet slightly bigger. The Pixel 9 Pro XL, meanwhile, is the big phone and what you want to go for if you want the largest display size.
One nice change is that both the Pro model options have the same features. So you’re not giving up the camera bonuses if you go with the Pixel 9 Pro. The main difference is the display size. The Pixel 9 Pro XL does have a slightly larger battery, however. There’s also no difference in storage as both versions can come with up to 1TB of storage.
As for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, it has the same size outer display as the Pixel 9 Pro but it does lose out on the cameras. It still has a triple camera system on the back, but they won’t be as nice as the ones on the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. It also has a slightly lower capacity battery than the Pixel 9 Pro at 4,650mAh compared to 4,700mAh. There’s a range of new color options this year too. Including Obsidian, Porcelain, Peony, Rose Quartz, and Wintergreen.
Google Pixel Watch 3
Google’s Pixel Watch 3 is finally official and this year it finally comes in a larger size. For the last two generations, Google has only offered a 41mm size option for its Pixel Watch lineup. This didn’t take away too much from the quality of the watches. However, the lack of a larger size option was a common complaint from consumers, including us here at Android Headlines. Thankfully, Google listened this year and is offering the Pixel Watch 3 in a 41mm size and a new larger 45mm size.
The bigger display should entice those who prefer the larger screen. On top of that, both the Pixel Watch 3 sizes come with a noticeably brighter display. The display now comes with a 2,000-nits peak brightness, and that’ll make it way easier to see in direct sunlight. The display is also capable of going up to 60Hz for the refresh rate which is a big improvement.
Additionally, the Pixel Watch 3 comes with several new features. Many of these are fitness-related, but that doesn’t make them less exciting. The new Moring Brief feature, for example, gives you a suite of insights and information about things like the weather, your readiness score, and various other tracked data like sleep score, and more. There are also new Cardo Load and Target Load features to help you set your goals and meet them.
It doesn’t end there. A few other neat additions like the Nest video feeds are going to be super useful for anyone with Nest Cams and Nest Doorbells. And if you live in the UK or the EU, the Pixel Watch 3 will offer a first-of-its-kind Loss of Pulse Detection feature.
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2
The last device Google announced at its Made By Google event was the Pixel Buds Pro 2. It’s been a couple of years since Google released a new pair of true wireless earbuds. So these felt like a long time coming. These new earbuds have better drivers to improve the audio quality which should help to bring in more bass and clarity for all of your favorite music.
Google didn’t just improve the sound quality. It also improved the ability to block out ambient noise. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 features what Google is calling Silent Seal 2.0 technology, which cancels out twice as much ambient noise as the Pixel Buds Pro. This feature in particular will be a boon for travelers and anyone who commutes to work or school on a daily basis.
Battery life is better now as well, with Google claiming the Pixel Buds Pro 2 can last for up to 30 hours of listening time. That is, of course, with the charging case. You’ll get up to 8 hours of listening time with ANC on a single charge. If you need more time, pop the earbuds in the charging case and get an additional 22 hours of listening time. That’s pretty good if you listen to music all day.
What about size and fit? Well, the Pixel Buds Pro were already very comfortable. But Google saw the opportunity to improve the earbuds in this area as well. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are 27% smaller and 24% lighter than the Pixel Buds Pro. So they should be slightly more comfortable if not just as comfortable. Google also implemented some pretty cool AI features. Conversation Detection will be able to tell when you’re in a conversation so you can more easily talk to people. Plus, the AI helps with the improvements to noise canceling.
Gemini Live voice chat
Last but not least, there’s Gemini Voice Chat, which Google calls Gemini Live. You will need to be a Gemini Advanced subscriber to take advantage of this. Although the feature itself isn’t a new announcement, Google did announce today that the feature is now rolling out to those who subscribe to Gemini Advanced. If that happens to be you, then you can use Gemini Live to ask Gemini questions out loud and get contextual responses. It can even respond in 10 different voices so you can customize the way it sounds.
As noted by Google when it was first at Google I/O back in May, you can talk with Gemini just like you would with a real person. That means you can ask it questions how you would ask another human being, and even interrupt it in the middle of its response.
