At this point, most of the biggest tech brands have some sort of AI model, and several of them can generate images. Elon Musk’s xAI has been behind the curve compared to much of the competition, but the company just took a step forward. xAI’s model Grok can now generate images.
In case you don’t know, X.com can scrape data from your posts to train Grok. It’s a pretty annoying thing, but there’s the option to disable this feature. Grok can now make images
AI-generated images were the introduction to generative AI for most people, and the technology has proven to be both impressive and scary. Now, there are tools like Stable Diffusion, DALL-E, Gemini, and many more. While all of this innovation has been going on, we were all wondering when Grok was going to pick up its paintbrush.
Well, that day has come. If you’re an X Premium+ user, then you’ll have access to the Grok image generator. Getting X Premium+ costs $16/month ($22/month if you sign up through the app). Recently, this payment tier became more ad-free.
xAI just unveiled the new Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini models. “Grok-2 is our state-of-the-art AI assistant with advanced capabilities in both text and vision understanding, integrating real-time information from the X platform, accessible through the Grok tab in the X app,” according to the company.
So far, the images generated by Grok are what you’d expect. They’re realistic to a degree. The examples we’ve seen look good, but they still have that “AI” characteristic that gives them away. That sort of airbrushed quality. They’re decent in the grand scheme of things, but we’re still seeing the usual AI pitfalls. We see random indescribable figures throughout the images, messed-up text, etc.
