Google is preparing to launch its upcoming Pixel devices earlier than ever before. Going all the way back to the Nexus, Google has always announced its new devices in either late September or October. But that all changes in 2024, with Google announcing the new Pixel 9 on August 13. The speculation around this date is, that it wants to beat the iPhone. Even though half of the products are rumored to be shipping in September, anyways. In this article, we’re going to preview what Google might have up its sleeve for the keynote this year, as well as how you can watch it live.
How to watch the Google Pixel 9 keynote
As usual, Google is live streaming the announcement on YouTube. So you can watch the keynote anywhere that has YouTube—your TV, smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc. You can watch the live stream below.
The Live Stream will start on August 13 at 10 AM PT or 1 PM ET, live from Mountain View, California. This also marks the first time that Google has announced its new Pixel devices from its campus.
What to Expect
Just like with any Google event, we basically know everything that the company is planning to announce. Google has actually already announced the names of a few of the devices, like the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
At this event, Google is expected to announce more devices than ever before. This includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 3 (41mm and 45mm), and Pixel Buds Pro 2.
Starting off with the Pixel 9 is going to be a direct successor to the Pixel 8 from last year, though it will add a slightly larger display. It’s reportedly going to sport a 6.3-inch display this year, with the Tensor G4 processor, 12GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. In fact, all of the Pixel 9 devices are getting RAM upgrades – except for Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google is offering the Pixel 9 in four colors, which includes the usual suspects of Obsidian and Porcelain. But it also adds a green that is rumored to be Wintergreen and a light pink that is rumored to be called Peony.
Next up is the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL. For the first time ever, Google is offering its “pro” model in two sizes. So now you don’t have to sacrifice size for Google’s best smartphone. Pixel 9 Pro will have a 6.3-inch display, while Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch display. Otherwise, both phones are identical, except for the battery capacity. So this includes the Tensor G4 processor and 16GB of RAM. It will also start at 128GB of storage, going up to 1TB – just like the Pixel 8 Pro.
Then there’s the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This is perhaps the phone with the biggest design changes this year. In fact, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold looks a lot more like the OnePlus Open, than a direct successor to the Pixel Fold from last year. It now has a large 6.3-inch cover display, and the largest internal display on a foldable at 8-inches. Much like the other “Pro” models, it also comes with 16GB of RAM and the Tensor G4. It is also likely coming with 128GB or 256GB of storage. We also expect this model to keep the same price as last year.
Moving onto the wearables, this year, Google is releasing the Pixel Watch 3 in two sizes (Finally!). There’s the 41mm that we’ve seen the past couple of years, along with a 45mm size. The battery is said to have improved, but it’s still rated at 24 hours. Additionally, the bezels are much smaller again this year.
Finally, the Pixel Buds Pro 2. The original Pixel Buds Pro launched back in 2021, so it’s definitely time for a new pair. We’re expecting some big improvements across the board here and, sadly, a price increase. Though, after three years, that seems like common sense.
Google could also have a few surprises up its sleeve, though at this point, we kind of doubt it. As literally, everything has leaked already.
