HMD Hyper specs leak; another Lumia-inspired device

HMD is banking on its brand rather than Nokia to bring out new smartphones. The company launched the HMD Skyline recently with a design reminiscent of the Nokia Lumia lineup. Now, a new leak has revealed key specs of the HMD Hyper, another smartphone that will stand out for its looks.

According to the source, the HMD Hyper will be quite similar to the Skyline at first glance. Both use a case design with sharp corners that contrast with the rounded corners of the display. The bezels around the display appear to be symmetrical, though they are not the smallest you will find. The rear camera module is almost identical to that of the Skyline, except for the LED placement. The HMD Hyper is expected to be available in a wide variety of colors too.

HMD Hyper leaked specs and design

As for the tech specs, the leak describes the HMD Hyper as a competent mid-range device. It would be built around an FHD+ OLED display at a 120 Hz refresh rate. It would be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip along with 8 GB RAM + 128 GB of storage (expandable via MicroSD). A 4,700 mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging would be keeping the lights on.

Its rear camera system would include 50 MP (main, OIS) + 13 MP (unspecified) + 8 MP (unspecified) sensors. The second sensor could be the same ultra-wide one from the HMD Skyline, while the third could be a telephoto. Its rear cameras would support 4K (30 fps) and FHD (60 fps/30 fps) video recording. The report claims that the device will inherit the same 50 MP selfie camera from the HMD Skyline.

On paper, the HMD Hyper could be a good mid-ranger if it is priced correctly. One of the main criticisms of the HMD Skyline was its price compared to its rivals. HMD also has to step up its game in software support. Currently, the company only promises two big Android updates (plus an additional year of security updates).
