RME Audio Interfaces
From home studios to professional music production, mixing, and mastering workflows, RME audio interfaces are known throughout the industry for their audio quality and reliability.
As an input stage, the mic preamps and DI inputs offer amazing clarity with plenty of discrete gain. Furthermore, the conversion features RME’s SteadyClock FS technology, offering stability and impressive dynamic range.
What’s more, with TotalMix Fx 1.96 Beta now available, you have a wide range of new features to improve your workflow. In addition, you’ll also receive over $500 worth of free plug-ins with the Apogee FX Rack Plugin-Bundle.
Neumann KH 120 II
The KH 120 II is Neumann’s latest compact studio monitor, perfect for home studios. It’s powerful for its size with a 5.25-inch woofer (145 W) and 1-inch tweeter (100 W) and a maximum SPL of 116.8 dB.
The DSP-controlled electronics give you access to a 3-band acoustic EQ on the rear panel and you can also use the room-adaptive speaker calibration with the optional Neumann Automatic Monitor Alignment MA 1 system.
In addition, the KH 120 II offers a wide range of connectivity including standard XLR inputs, as well as S/PDIF coaxial digital, and ethernet.
AKG C414
When it’s time to step up your home studio to a more professional level, a workhorse condenser microphone like the C414 is a great starting point. The C414 was introduced in the early 1970s and uses a capsule based on the famous CK12.
There are two versions you can get your hands on today, including the more modern-sounding XLII and the slightly darker XLS. Each offers multipattern functionality for a range of applications and they are also available in matched stereo pairs.
Overall, the C414 is ideal for vocal recording as well as guitar amp cabinets. However, many professional studios still use the 414 in stereo overhead configurations for tracking drums.
Rupert Neve Designs 542
The Rupert Neve Designs 542 brings the magic of tape emulation into the 500-series format. The 542 meticulously recreates every aspect of recording to a vintage magnetic tape machine.
This includes precise pre-tape level adjustment, as how hard you hit the tape will determine the engagement of effects like saturation and soft clipping. While the drive meter gives you a reading of the level at the tape head, there is a selector switch to choose between 15 and 30 IPS.
In addition, there’s also the red and blue Silk texture circuit you find on many renowned RND studio tools. The only drawback of the 542 is the price, combined with the fact that you’ll want two of them for stereo use.
SSL Pure Drive Preamps
Expand your audio interface with the SSL Pure Drive series, with preamp technology from the SSL ORIGIN in-line console. The Pure Drive series preamps feature 65 dB of gain, 3 drive modes, and insert paths on each channel for flexibility.
On the digital side, there is a range of connectivity including AES/EBU, ADAT optical, and word clock. In addition, the Pure Drive functions as a 12 x 12 USB audio interface with 32-bit 192 kHz conversion.
Overall, the Pure Drive series provides a professional input stage with versatility and quality beyond most audio interfaces in this price range.
