Vivo has announced two new smartphones, the Vivo V40 and Vivo V40 Pro. These phones are ZEISS-boosted, and the company says that they are designed to “elevate the mobile portrait photography experience”.
The Vivo V40 series is here with similar designs and similar internals
These two smartphones look almost the same. The difference is visible on the back, though, as their camera islands are slightly different due to different placement of some sensors (the Vivo V40 Pro also has one extra camera on the back). Other than that, they look the same on the outside.
Both smartphones are made out of metal and glass. They come in a range of colors and feature curved displays. A centered display camera hole is placed on the top of the displays on both phones, while the bezels are quite thin.
The camera islands on the back are quite odd. There are basically two levels to it. The cameras themselves and additional sensors are split into two separate islands, which are placed on a pill-shaped protrusion in the top-left corner. This doesn’t exactly look like eye candy, but at least it’s in the same color as the back side of the phone. We’ll talk more about the cameras soon.
They have the same displays, but different processors
The two phones have the same display on the front. It’s a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2800 x 1260. This display has a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, on paper at least. This display also has SGS Certification for Low Blue Light, Low Flicker, and Low Motion Blur. HDR10+ content is also supported.
The chipsets are different. The Vivo V40 is fueled by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, while the ‘Pro’ model comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+. Both devices are available with RAM configurations of 8GB and 12GB of RAM, and both offer up to 512GB of storage.
You’ll find a 5,500mAh battery inside both smartphones, and both of them support 80W wired charging. Yes, a charger is included in the retail box. Android 14 comes pre-installed on both smartphones, along with Vivo’s Funtouch OS 14.
What’s interesting is that the Vivo V40 supports Bluetooth 5.4, while the Vivo V40 Pro offers support for older Bluetooth 5.3. That sure is odd, but there you go, that’s what it says in the official spec sheet.
The camera situation is rather interesting considering these are mid-range phones
In regards to cameras, the Vivo V40 Pro has one extra camera on the back. It has three compared to two on the Vivo V40. The Vivo V40 has a 50-megapixel main camera (OIS) and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera.
The Vivo V40 Pro, on the other hand, has a 50-megapixel main camera (Sony’s IMX921 sensor, OIS), a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit, and a 50-megapixel telephoto portrait camera (Sony’s IMX816 sensor). Both devices include a 50-megapixel ‘Group Selfie’ camera on the front. The Vivo V series is actually well-known for its great selfie camera experience.
Various camera features are on offer here, including ZEISS Multifocal Portrait, ZEISS Style Portrait, AI Aura Light Portrait, ZEISS Focus Transition, Vivo Color System, ZEISS Natural Color, and more.
The Vivo V40 comes in more color options
Both devices measure 164.16 x 74.93 x 7.58mm. The Vivo V40 Pro is 2 grams heavier than the Vivo V40, it weighs 192 grams. The Vivo V40 comes in Meteor Blue, Moonlight White, Nebula Purple, Stellar Silver, and Sunglow Peach colors. The ‘Pro’ model, on the other hand, comes in Meteor Blue, Moonlight White, and Stellar Silver colors. The price tags are still unknown.
