The TASCAM DA-3000SD marks the return of TASCAM’s famed master recorders, with 24-bit conversion it’s useful in a range of workflows.
Originally launched back in 2013, many engineers will be thrilled to see the DA-3000 series back on the market. For decades, TASCAM recorders have provided stable mediums for bouncing mixes and masters ranging from Cassette and DAT, to Hard Disk and SD card.

The SD model provides some improvements on its predecessor, with expanded SDHC card (4GB-32GB) and SDXC card (64GB-512GB) support. Meanwhile, I/O specs remain the same, with balanced and unbalanced analogue I/O as well as AES/EBU, S/PDIF, and word clock.
In addition, the same high-quality recording formats are supported with a PCM1795 Burr-Brown conversion system. This includes up to 24-bit 192 kHz PCM and 2.8 and 5.6 MHz for DSD with support for cascading of multiple DA-3000SD units to allow DSD multitrack recording.
Should you choose to record in analogue, the conversion quality is outstanding. While the power supply uses an EI core transformer and individual windings on the digital and analogue circuitry.
Furthermore, the output stage features two mono circuits that form the high-quality dual monaural configuration, which gives the unit such resoundingly favourable sonics. To keep noise to a minimum, careful attention has been given to all circuitry, with a balanced configuration on all I/O.
Overall, not much has changed from the model introduced in 2013. However, it already met the standards of so many professional users, so one could argue that a complete redesign was not necessary.
