Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Xiaomi MIX Flip: Design

Both of these smartphones are made out of aluminum and glass. That makes both of these phones rather slippery, actually. They also do have a somewhat similar in-hand feel for several reasons. Both smartphones have a flat frame all around, and similar corner curvature. They’re also similar in size and weight. You will know when you’re holding the Xiaomi MIX Flip, though, as it has a rather interesting design of its backplate, and cover display too. Both glass pieces bulge out from the frame of the phone, kind of. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 features flat glass panels laid on top of the frame. The in-hand feel is similar in some ways, but different in others.

The Xiaomi MIX Flip is slightly taller, noticeably wider, and a bit thicker too. Do note that it also has larger displays than the Galaxy Z Flip 6, so that’s understandable. Both phones feature a centered display camera hole at the top of their main displays. Their cover displays are large, but look different. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has the so-called ‘folder display’, as it’s shaped like a folder. Its main cameras are not included inside the display, but outside of it. The Xiaomi MIX Flip’s cameras are included inside the panel itself.

The main cameras on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 are horizontally-aligned, while the ones on the Xiaomi MIX Flip have a vertical orientation. Both sets are placed in the top-left corner (looking from an unfolded state), though. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is IP48 certified for water resistance. The Xiaomi MIX Flip does not offer any type of water resistance. Both devices do feel like quality products, by the way, and have good hinges.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Xiaomi MIX Flip: Display

There is a 6.7-inch fullHD+ (2640 x 1080) main Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display included on the Galaxy Z Flip 6. That panel offers a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 85%. The cover display on the phone measures 3.4 inches and offers a resolution of 720 x 748 pixels. It’s a Super AMOLED panel with a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects this display.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Xiaomi MIX Flip

The Xiaomi MIX Flip, on the other hand, has a 6.86-inch 2912 x 1224 display. That’s a foldable LTPO AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It can project up to 1 billion colors and supports HDR10+ content and Dolby Vision too. The peak brightness here is 3,000 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 87%. The cover display on the phone measures 4 inches. That is an AMOLED panel that also supports HDR10+ content and Dolby Vision. It has a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The resolution here is 1392 x 1208. This panel is protected by scratch/drop-resistant glass.

Both smartphones have great displays. All of them are quite vivid and more than sharp enough. They also have deep blacks and great viewing angles. All displays also get bright enough, though the Xiaomi MIX Flip’s cover display has one advantage. It offers a high refresh rate, unlike the panel on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 which is limited to 60Hz. That is something you’ll notice if you’re used to high refresh rate displays.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Xiaomi MIX Flip: Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. An overclocked version of Qualcomm’s best chip. The Xiaomi MIX Flip has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the inside, the standard version. There’s not much differentiating them apart, really. We’re looking at a 4nm chip here, a truly powerful chip. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 also offers 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, while the Xiaomi MIX Flip offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Both of these smartphones support UFS 4.0 flash storage.

Both of these devices offer great day-to-day performance. They’re very snappy when it comes to opening apps, multitasking, browsing, multimedia consumption, and everything else you can imagine, basically. Their cover displays do work a bit differently, however, due to different software builds. Now, things do become different when we get to the gaming section, however, which is a bit surprising.

Based on their specifications, these two phones should offer similar gaming performance. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 does have the advantage in that department. It offers better performance with graphically intensive games, from what we’ve seen. The Xiaomi MIX Flip tends to throttle both the CPU and GPU with such games and also gets very warm in the process. We’re not sure if there’s a software way to fix that, but that’s what the initial reviews have shown.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Xiaomi MIX Flip: Battery

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 includes a 4,000mAh battery, while the Xiaomi MIX Flip offers a 4,780mAh battery pack. Needless to say, the Xiaomi MIX Flip has a considerably larger battery. Even though it has larger displays, this battery capacity difference is quite jarring. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a really good battery life, as we were able to find out in our review. Does the Xiaomi MIX Flip trump it?

The short answer is, yes, it does. The difference is not as big as you’d think, though. Getting over 7 hours of screen-on-time is possible with both of these phones, but the Xiaomi MIX Flip usually has more charge left in the tank. It’s on the same playing field as the Motorola Razr+ 2024 aka Razr 50 Ultra, basically. You can even push it past the 8-hour screen-on-time mark, but that’s a bit harder to do.

When it comes to charging, the Xiaomi MIX Flip wins in the speed department. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is more versatile, however. The Xiaomi MIX Flip supports 67W wired charging, while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. Samsung handset will charge much slower, but it can charge wirelessly, and charge other devices wirelessly. Another thing to note is that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 does not include a charger in the box. The Xiaomi MIX Flip does.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Xiaomi MIX Flip: Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a 50-megapixel main camera on the back, in addition to a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit (123-degree FoV). Xiaomi also opted to include two cameras on the back of the Xiaomi MIX Flip. The company opted for a 50-megapixel main unit, and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera (2x optical zoom, macro shooter). Leica is also a part of the Xiaomi MIX Flip offering, by the way.

While the Galaxy Z Flip 6 finally received a camera boost, the Xiaomi MIX Flip is the more reliable shooter overall. The phone generally captures better-looking images, during both day and night, even though the difference is not that big. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 still prefers to boost the colors a bit more, so if that’s the look you prefer, then you’ll be happy with the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Also, Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic shooting modes on the Xiaomi MIX Flip do offer different-looking photos, but both are great. In low light, both phones tend to brighten up the scenes quite a bit, but overall, the Xiaomi MIX Flip photos offer better balance. Xiaomi should have, arguably, included an ultrawide camera on the back, though, instead of a telephoto one. It at least does a great job with macro photography, as the 2x optical zoom is not as useful as an ultrawide FoV would be. It does come in handy for portraits, though.

Audio

When it comes to audio, both phones are quite good. They offer stereo speakers, and even though the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s are louder, the difference is not that big. The sound quality coming from those speakers is good on both sides.

Neither phone includes an audio jack, however. So if you’d like to use your wired headphones, you’ll need to utilize their Type-C ports. Alternatively, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 supports Bluetooth 5.3, while the Xiaomi MIX Flip supports Bluetooth 5.4.
