The Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are suspected to be coming next week with the company’s Made by Google event on August 13, and it looks like things are proceeding in this direction because a new rumor suggests that Google’s new earbuds have already arrived in-store.
The rumor comes from a user on Reddit (spotted by Android Authority) who says that they just received a display unit of the earbuds in-store. No photos are posted, however, they do give details about the design and talk about size comparisons. As described by the user, who goes by u/nothinghandmighty, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 “look great with the wings.”
While some detail is given out about the general look of these new earbuds, it’s worth noting just a couple of things. There are no images shared and the user says there is no packaging that came along with the display unit. All they have right now is the display unit itself. Not actual retail versions of the product that are meant to be sold. So that means no specs details that could be listed on the packaging.
Google also hasn’t technically confirmed these earbuds are coming. So you might want to take this rumor a bit lightly for the moment. That being said, the new earbuds have leaked more than a few times already. So their arrival is probably a safe bet. In addition to the design, the user says they signed an agreement not to sell any product until August 22. They aren’t allowed to put out the display unit until August 13 as well.
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are “smaller” than the current Pro model
One interesting piece of information in the post highlights a comparison between the size of the new buds and Google’s currently available model. According to the user, the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are smaller than the current Pro model. If that’s actually the case, then these might be more comfortable to wear. And the original Pixel Buds Pro were already very comfortable.
The user says that they weren’t able to actually test how they fit. Because the earbuds are glued to the display unit. It does sound as though the user has a pair of the original Pixel Buds Pro, however, so they would be able to give a proper size comparison if they were able to test the fit.
The new case looks slimmer
It isn’t just the new earbuds that may have shrunk in size a bit. In the same Reddit thread, it’s also noted that the case looks slimmer too. This would make the new earbuds even more pocketable and easier to store. Which is never a bad thing.
The case also reportedly has a speaker grille-like thing on the bottom, as u/nothinghandmighty says in one of the comment responses. Google is set to release these on August 22 according to both previous rumors and this new Reddit post. They may end up costing $229 in the US.
