When the Los Angeles Lakers selected forward Brandon Ingram with the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the iconic franchise was expected to take a fresh look at the franchise in the post-Kobe Bryant era.
Ingram showed he had all the tools to be an elite NBA player while spending time at Duke under coach Mike Krzyzewski and received numerous comparisons to future Hall of Famer and two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant.

Starting over in New Orleans was seen as a good move for Ingram, because it would be his time, or at least he would be a star at the same time Zion Williamson came to town.

The Pelicans wanted to trade Ingram this summer because they now realize he's not worth the money they'd have to pay to keep him in Nova Orleans to play alongside Williamson and CJ McCollum.
Since the trade market is considered “limited” for Ingram's services, assuming a new deal with the Pelicans for veterans may be inevitable, making them very rich.
