Following on from Adidas and Puma, Roland are now collaborating on new 808 shoes with New Balance.
New 808 Shoes
You may remember that Roland released some 808 shoes with Puma back in 2018. The company also did a pair with Adidas. Now Roland is back in the footwear game, this time collaborating with New Balance on a new set of skater-inspired kicks – and just in time for August 8 aka 808 Day.
New 808 Shoes: Tiago Lemos NM808
Called the Tiago Lemos NM808, the new limited edition sneakers are black with yellow and orange accents, just like the TR-808, the famous 1980 drum machine. These new 808 shoes are not just for programming drum machines in. They’re also skate shoes, bearing the name of legendary skater Tiago Lemos.
You may have noticed a distinctly ‘90s vibe to the shoe. That’s on purpose. “The limited-edition sneakers pay homage to the late ’90s while incorporating cutting-edge New Balance technology and the TR-808’s retro design,” Roland said. “Available in a sleek black colorway, these sneakers are engineered for both style and performance, featuring a reinforced toecap, internal foam pods for a secure fit, and foot-locking straps.”
There will also be a selection of Roland and New Balance branded clothing available through Roland.
808 Live
Every year Roland does something on 808 Day. While there haven’t been any announcements of new products, the company will be partnering with streaming site Twitch on an event called 808 Live. It will feature an eight-hour block of live DJs, including Grandmaster Flash, DJ Roueche (Official DJ of the Los Angeles Lakers), Skratch Bastid, DJ Melo-D, DJ Bella Hue, and more
New 808 Shoes: Price and Availability
The limited edition Roland/New Balance Tiago Lemos NM808 shoes are available now on New Balance’s site for $119.99. They’ll be rolling out to select retailers around the world on August 8. The collaboration clothes will be available exclusively on the Roland Lifestyle web store from 808 Day.
