The upcoming book is set to spark controversy around Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Author Anupreta Das alleges that Mr. Gates engaged in inappropriate behavior with multiple women, or that he led Microsoft to put measures in place to protect his young family members, or New York Post Office Tell.
The book depicts a man who, despite his benevolent image, demonstrated a pattern of unwanted advances and abusive behavior with both superiors and employees.
The book notes that Bill Gates “felt some of the Gates Foundation's leaders were in an uncomfortable position where they had to think about their career prospects, without wanting to be trampled on by the chef.”
However, a former Microsoft executive said Gates did not “hit” women without asking for sexual favors in the career advancement process. “He’s not Harvey Weinstein… I don’t know of any real situation where someone would get anything in exchange for sleeping with Bill.”
A spokesperson for Bill Gates denied the allegations. “Based solely on second- and third-party embellishments and anonymous sources, the book contains highly sensationalist claims and outright lies that ignore the real, documented facts that our office has provided to the author on numerous occasions,” the spokesperson said in a statement to the New York Post Office.
These alleged actions are said to have had a profound impact on Mr Gates’s marriage to Melinda French Gates. The book suggests that she became increasingly concerned about her husband’s behaviour, prompting her to take proactive measures, including reorganising her security detail and restricting her access to personal contact information.
The couple's eventual divorce was attributed in part to the ongoing stress caused by these assignments, such as Gates' ongoing association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The allegations were met with vehement denials by Gates and his representatives, who called the book's claims sensational and unfounded. However, the accusations proved to spark intense public scrutiny and debate about the behavior of powerful figures.
The book is scheduled to hit stores on August 13.
