Washington:
The Justice Department said North American authorities have seized two Indian cities with drugs worth less than $10 million. Simranjit Singh, 28, and Josimrat Singh, 19, of Fresno, California, are charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
Both will make their first appearance in federal court in Boston on July 29 and remain in federal custody. The arrests were made after local police found more than 400 kilograms of cocaine in the back of the tractor, worth more than $10.5 million.
“The large amount of drugs seized in this case is disturbing and dangerous,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy. “They allegedly traveled across the country distributing illegal drugs to communities across Massachusetts.”
According to charging documents, on July 29 at 10:15 p.m., a white contractor attempted to carry out a planned operation in Andover to deliver methamphetamine to undercover agents. The driver of the passenger trailer, later identified as Josimrat Singh and Simranjit Singh, allegedly delivered more than 65 pounds of suspected methamphetamine to the masked officers. The occupants of the home were immediately arrested.
The charge of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, at least three years and life in prison with supervised release, and a fine of up to $1,000,000.
