Don't Show Again Yes, I would!

Galaxy A15 sales stood up to the iPhone 15 during last quarter

Recent market research has revealed the sales ranking for smartphones around the world during Q2 2024. While the presence of Apple’s iPhone 15 series at the top is not a surprise, the humble model that is challenging it may be.

iPhone 15 series tops smartphone sales ranking for Q2 2024

The latest Counterpoint Research’s report shows the top 10 best-selling smartphones for the past quarter. The data reflects that the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and vanilla iPhone 15 took the top three spots in the ranking, respectively. Interestingly, the iPhone 15 Plus has no presence on the list.

It seems that the “Plus” iPhone models have not been the most popular in recent years, at least during the period studied. Last year’s iPhone 14 Plus was also missing from the Q2 2023 top 10 smartphone sales ranking. However, at the time, Apple held onto the top four spot anyway thanks to sales of the vanilla iPhone 13.

Now, poor iPhone 15 sales and a drop in interest in the vanilla iPhone 14 prevented Apple from taking the top four spots again. So, who took the fourth spot this year? Samsung, but probably with an unexpected model. The device that’s challenging the iPhone 15 series’ sales is the Galaxy A15.

Galaxy A15 series, Apple’s unexpected rival

To be fair, it’s actually the whole Galaxy A15 series that’s challenging Apple. That is the combined sales of the Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A15 4G. Individually, these devices occupy the fourth and fifth spots in the Q2 2024 sales ranking, respectively. However, the combined market share of the Galaxy A15 series reaches 3.8%, which is more than the individual market share of all iPhone 15 models except the vanilla one.

The difference between the iPhone 15 and the Galaxy A15 series is not that big either. Apple’s latest mobile flagship boasts a market share of 4.1%, just 0.3% above Samsung’s entry-level device. The report also shows other interesting facts, such as a slight drop in iPhone sales year on year. Also, the latest Galaxy A55 is selling less than the Galaxy A54.

Another surprise in the ranking could be the Redmi 13C 4G taking the eighth spot in the global top 10. Plus, it seems that the Galaxy A35 failed to attract attention, as it is missing from the list.
