“Terminator Zero” is about to happen.
The long-awaited Netflix series, produced by Japanese animation studio Production I.G and overseen by creator Mattson Tomlin, will hit the streaming service on August 29 (which is game day in the “O Future Annihilation” storyline). But before the series officially launches, you can watch a brand-new trailer below.
According to the official synopsis, Terminator Zero follows the story of a soldier who was never sent to Volta to change the fate of humanity. He leaves in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee, who is working to launch a new artificial intelligence system designed to compete with Skynet's imminent attack on humanity. As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his upbringing, he is hunted by a ruthless future assassin who forever changes the fate of his three children.
Incredibly, Terminator Zero has been passed down through the continuity of the Terminator franchise, and that timeline has undergone more revisions and updates than we can count. To use the official wording, “It’s part of the Terminator universe, but it will focus on new characters.” The last live-action Terminator film, Terminator: Dark Fate , was released in 2019 and was supposed to be the starting point for a new trilogy. Now, the series has been back to form, and it’s been a disappointment for the plethora.
The English voice cast for “Terminator Zero” is quite impressive, with Timothy Olyphant as The Future Exterminator, Andre Holland as Malcolm Lee, Rosario Dawson as Echo, Ann Dowd as Prophet, and Sonoya Mizuno as Kokoro.
Tomlin serves as writer, director, and executive producer, while Masashi Kudo serves as director. Skydance Animation is the executive producer.
