Don't Show Again Yes, I would!

These extensions could make Gemini more useful

One of the great things about Gemini is its ability to integrate with other services. It’s a Google product of all things, so it has the entire Google ecosystem of software products at its fingertips. According to a new report, Gemini might be getting some new extensions that will make it that much more useful.

In case you don’t know, free Gemini users are gaining access to a more powerful version of Gemini. During Google I/O this year, the company unveiled Gemini 1.5 Flash. This is a very powerful and lightweight version of its latest model. Well, after a few months of waiting, Google finally released it to free Gemini users. This will give free users a much more powerful experience.

Gemini could be getting more extensions

You’ll want to take this news a bit cautiously. Assemble Debug collaborated with Android Authority to bring us this news. They performed an APK deep-dive into the latest version of the Google app beta (v15.29.34.29 beta). They discovered some code that hints at these features. However, this doesn’t guarantee that these features will come to the platform.

Google Home

Starting off with one for the smart home owners, Gemini might be able to integrate with Google Home. This could point to Gemini having direct access to your smart home devices. Imagine simply telling Gemini to turn your light off or start the coffee machine. Rather than going through the Google Assistant, it will be able to directly perform the task. Depending on how Google implements this, this could be a time saver.

Utilities

This next feature might be one of the most interesting. Looking at the screenshot below, we see a setting called Utilities. There’s not too much information on this feature, but there’s a brief description. It will allow you to “Take photos, open apps, and adjust the volume without searching menus or opening settings.”

Basically, it looks like Gemini will be able to perform deep actions on your phone without needing to do it. Imagine telling Gemini to perform tasks on your phone when your hands are full or dirty.

Phone

This is a pretty straightforward extension. Using this feature, you’ll be able to tell Gemini to call contacts. We’re sure that it will be able to do other things, but there’s no indication of that. As smart as Gemini is, we’re sure that Google will let it do more advanced functions.

Currently, if you want to call users, you’ll use Google Assistant. Well, this is just another sign that Google is replacing Assistant with Gemini.
