OnePlus Buds may get support for AI calling summaries

Posted on

The new Galaxy Buds 3 series includes support for AI features on Galaxy devices. Now it seems OnePlus will follow the same path with its own earbuds. A leak suggests that the company will implement the AI calling summarize feature for its OnePlus Buds products in the near future.

Multiple smartphone brands are jumping on the generative AI bandwagon. Google paved the way, and companies like Samsung took advantage of it. However, while others started a bit later, they don’t want to be left too far behind. BBK Electronics companies, like OPPO and OnePlus, have their own AI model (LLM) for mobile devices called AndesGPT.

OnePlus Buds products may receive integration with the AI calling summarize feature

In recent months, phones from OPPO and OnePlus have been receiving AI-powered features based on AndesGPT and cloud computing. For example, OnePlus phones have an AI calling summary option capable of capturing some key data from your calls to show you in a “report.” Data can include items like times, dates, places, and more. It’s pretty handy in case you’re a forgetful person or just want to save the info automatically.

Now, it seems that the company’s OnePlus Buds products are about to receive options to control the AI calling summarize feature. As spotted by Android Authority in the OnePlus Buds app (v14.8.2), the company is adding new settings related to the feature. Users can trigger or stop the AI summary by tapping three times on the earbuds’ stem. Interestingly, the feature also supports summaries for audio and video playback in third-party apps. However, the description suggests that not all media apps are supported.

OnePlus’ AI summarize feature has yet to reach global markets

This year, OnePlus launched the Buds 3, but a “Pro” model is also expected later. The product will be the successor to last year’s successful OnePlus Buds Pro 2. Both new-gen models will likely receive support for the AI summarize feature. However, it’s noteworthy that the feature is currently only available in China. There is still no confirmation about an upcoming rollout in global markets.

Also, as with the AI features support of the Galaxy Buds 3 series, OnePlus Buds’ AI summaries will only be compatible with OnePlus devices. After all, the earbuds do not include AI summarize as such but rather trigger it on the mobile device.
