New Vivo phones are coming on August 7 with weird camera islands

Vivo is planning to announce some new phones on August 7, and they do have a rather weird camera island. We’re talking about the Vivo V40 series here, the Vivo V40 and Vivo X40 Pro Android phones.

The company not only confirmed the names of both products, but we also know what they’ll look like. All of this information comes from Vivo India, as that seems to be the first market the phones will arrive to.

Upcoming Vivo smartphones feature rather weird camera islands

Vivo not only confirmed the launch date but also showed us the upcoming devices. The Vivo V30 series looked the same, and the Vivo V40 phones will too. If you check out the image below, you’ll be able to see both devices.

This image has been taken from Vivo’s official teaser video. You can clearly see both devices side by side. They will have a curved display and a centered display camera hole up top.

Things get somewhat interesting when we look at their backplates, however. You’ll notice a rather weird camera island on the back of both phones. It has several layers. The main layer protrudes quite a bit but two additional ones are placed on top.

ZEISS will be a part of the package

The top layer contains the two cameras themselves, along with the ZEISS branding. The bottom layer has some additional sensors, and what seems to be an LED flash. The top layer is round, while the bottom one is pill-shaped.

The top and bottom sides of the phone seem to be flat for the most part, but that’s not the case with the frame on the sides. The camera sensors and the LED flash are inverted on the back, depending on the model. Other than that, the two phones look the same.

We get to see purple and mint color variants of the phones here. Those won’t be their names, though. We do know that the mint-colored phone will be called ‘Ganges Blue’. The company seems to be using glass on the back of both devices, but we cannot be sure.
