Let’s face it, green line issues are one of the most annoying problems on smartphones with AMOLED displays. Users have reported this issue on smartphones from renowned brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Apple, Google, etc. Sadly, users often find themselves stranded when trying to fix the same. Many brands repair the display as part of the out-of-warranty service costing users a chunk of money.
Then, there is OnePlus which has offered a lifetime display warranty for its users who suffer from green line issues. Now, it seems OnePlus is taking its promise to another level by offering free screen upgrades on a few models to prevent the annoying issue.
OnePlus is offering a Lifetime Free Screen Upgrade to prevent green line issues in India
The news comes via Android Authority which spotted a post from a user @Starcommander on X (formerly Twitter). As seen in the image below, the X user came across an exclusive benefit of the “Lifetime Free Screen Upgrade” offer as part of the OnePlus’s Red Cable Club loyalty program. The screenshot shared by the user mentions that OnePlus is offering a free “screen upgrade” for users of the OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9R.
However, there seems to be some condition related to it. One, the smartphone should be free of any external damage. Secondly, the Android smartphone shouldn’t have been “disassembled privately.” It should be noted that this exclusive benefit is limited to India only, therefore the free screen upgrade from OnePlus is eligible for Indian users for now.
The company is offering a free screen upgrade through a three-tier initiative
Android Authority even got in touch with OnePlus to get further details about the free screen upgrade. In response, the publication got details about the company’s “Free Screen Diagnostics and Service Initiative.” According to the published report, the aforementioned initiative includes three tiers of services. First, there’s “Comprehensive Diagnostics.” The name itself hints that it is a thorough inspection of the screen’s performance and reliability.
Secondly, there’s “Screen Upgrades and Replacements.” This tier of service offers eligible users a “new, advanced display panel” that improves display performance with a vibrant display and increased durability. Plus, the panel resists high humidity and high-temperature conditions. Lastly, there’s a complimentary “Deep Cleaning Service” which ensures the device functions smoothly without any hiccups.
OnePlus might extend the initiative to the US and other markets down the line
OnePlus also informed the publication that this initiative primarily focuses on the OnePlus 8 Pro. However, it will extend the initiative to some older models subject to screen availability. Let’s not forget that human-caused damages like drops or liquid damages disqualify the device from OnePlus’s free screen upgrade program. The company further says that it is exploring possibilities to extend the same to the US and other markets too.
Worth noting that there’s no word on whether the lifetime display warranty is applicable for the upgraded display. That said, we can’t deny that OnePlus actively innovates with its products and services. And, this is just another example of it. Not to mention, OnePlus users in India will cherish this move from the Chinese smartphone giant.
