Don't Show Again Yes, I would!

Google is prepping Gemini to fine-tune your Pictures with Magic Editor

Gemini has been able to do a load of different things, since it was announced back in February. But it’s set to get a slew of new features, as soon as August 13, when Google announces the new Pixel smartphones.

Thanks to the folks over at AndroidAuthority, who have torn down the latest APK for the Google app (Beta), it appears that Google is working on allowing you to edit your images using Gemini and text-based prompts. This is similar to what Adobe offers in Photoshop, where you can say something like “change the background to a sunset on a beach,” and it’ll do it.

We actually saw this feature in action as part of the promo video we leaked last week. Based on that video, it appears that this feature will be housed in the Magic Editor suite of tools that’s available in Google Photos, and it’ll be available on the entire Pixel 9 lineup. We’d also expect it to launch on older Pixels, and even non-Pixel smartphones, maybe not right away, though.

This new tool will make it easier to edit your photos

Many are not as creative as they’d like to be, so having a tool like this makes it much easier to edit your photos. Including changing the backgrounds, removing objects, adding objects, changing the size of objects in the photo, and more.

In addition to using text-based prompts, Google is also letting you circle things to go with the text-based prompt. So an example that Android Authority is showing here is circling the house behind the two dogs, and asking Gemini to replace this with something better.

While this does appear in the Google beta app right now, it’s not actually live. This means that we may not even get this feature when the Pixel 9 series is announced in a couple of weeks. We might have to wait a bit longer for this, which is quite common for Google (and Apple). They tend to announce features that will come in future updates, or in Google’s world, “Feature Drops”. So this could come in the October or November feature drop or even next year.
