In a whirlwind adventure spanning multiple countries like Malaysia and Thailand, the talented crew from Directors Think Tank Singapore, led by the ever-creative Shu Ying, brought to life an exciting film for Toyota. With a client up for an imaginative ride, this charming project demanded a mix of planning prowess, adaptability, and good ol’ creative problem-solving skills.
Why brave this ambitious journey alone when you can do it with a little help from your friends? The DTT Singapore team teamed up seamlessly with DTT Malaysia and Benetone Thailand, proving once again that the best work happens when you mix a bit of know-how with a dash of teamwork and a sprinkle of fun!
Lam said: “I can speak for a lot of the team when I say that without a doubt, and from the bottom of our hearts, this ranks as the most fulfilling project of our careers thus far. When I was a boy growing up between Asia and the United States, I always felt that as an Asian, I was somehow less than. I didn’t see movie stars or famous athletes that looked like me, so that must have meant we were somehow less capable, less appealing, less physically able. To this day, I still believe that you cannot be what you cannot see. Thankfully, we are now more visible and more respected than ever. I wanted this campaign to give new champions to the little boys and girls out in the world who, like me once, may be comparing themselves to others and not feeling like they are enough. I want to shine a spotlight on the men and women who look like them, who come from the same humble places as them, and through relentless grit, perseverance and support from their loved ones, can rise to represent the best of us on the global stage.
“The planning and filming of this campaign required a herculean effort. We brought together an international crew, coordinating eleven Olympians and Paralympians across multiple countries for a 12-day shoot that spanned two months of planning and several more in post. Usually on a production of such magnitude, crossed wires are bound to happen and mistakes are basically expected.
“And yet every step of the way, from client to agency to production, we shared a perfectly synced vision for the tone and aesthetic of the films, with heart and humanity guiding every decision. I can only best describe the experience of this as feeling like the universe wanted this to happen, and moved heaven and earth for us to make it so. I am immensely grateful. This was a dream project in every sense.”
With a client who’s all about teamwork and a director leading the charge with a clear vision, this film is a delightful result of collaborative efforts! Picture a world where flexibility meets unwavering support, resulting in a production journey that’s as refreshing and cpativating.
