With Anyma V, Aodyo Instruments bring polyphonic physical modelling to the masses with MPE and a fantastic launch price.
French developer Aodyo shook things up a bit a few of years ago with their Anyma Phi, a desktop physical modelling synth that packed a big sound into a small box with a streamlined interface. Launched via a Kickstarter campaign, it caught a lot of people’s attention.
It offered a simple interface, designed around the concept of a matrix consisting of 5 rows of modelling elements (Excite, Vibrate, Diffuse, Global and Animate) and four columns of parameters. A small screen gave a decent degree of information feedback and the thing did sound quite lovely.
Anyma V
Well, apparently, when trying to come up with a software tool that would assist them in developing and testing the Phi further, they ended up creating a full-on software version! And in the spirit of Arturia and their MiniFreak V, they have released this as a software plugin and standalone version so we can all have fun with the Phi engine!
The Anyma V is allegedly a 1:1 software recreation and any sound you design in it can be sent straight to the hardware, if you wish. But the whole thing stands as its own instrument and the hardware is not required to use it. Better still, unlike its hardware counterpart, Anyma V is polyphonic!
Deeply Simple, Simply Deep
The simple interface is replicated and colour coding is used to differentiate between patch types. For example, pink is for arps! But if you want to dive into the weeds, the editor software that was previously available is now incorporated here. It’s also MPE compatible which really opens physical modelling up. I had great fun playing with this from my PolyBrute 12!
I was intruiged by the Anyma Phi when it launched but held back for reasons I don’t recollect. But now, I can play around with this pretty powerful instrument from the comfort of my computer and as a fan of physical modelling, I am really loving the Anyma Phi/V paradigm. It’s simple when you want it to be, deep when that urge strikes.
Available Now
Anyma V is available now for a launch price of just €79, rising to €159 when that offer ends. It is available for macOS, Windows and Linux as both a VST3 and AU format plugin as well as a standalone. There is also a fully featured demo version that occasionally cuts out until you buy a licence.
