The Debut 100R promises players a simplistic playing experience, offering an ideal platform for pedals. Is this a worthy upgrade over last year’s Debut 50R?

Blackstar Debut 100R

Last year, we saw the release of the Blackstar Debut 50R. If 50 watts weren’t good enough for you, the guys and girls at Blackstar amplification have doubled the power. Available in Black and Cream, these new models come as either a 1×12 or 2×12 combo.

Designed to be simple and faff free, intentionally removing all of the bells and whistles, these amps both have a clean and overdrive channels. So far so familiar. So why upgrade?

Internal Features

Whichever you go for, both amps have a proper old school routes rock vibes about them. However, inside they’re totally up to date with a MOFSET preamp, along with patented ISF control.

Pictured above, we’ve got the 112 combo. You can get this single custom-designed speaker in both colours, which is nice to have the option. Speaking of choices, we’ve got power reduction from 100 watts down to 5 watts for bedroom jams.

Moreover, there’s a line in for practising with your favourite backing tracks. Whilst you’re practicing, make use of a speaker emulated line out for recording or silent practice.

212 Combo built for pedals

Despite having built in Hall and Plate reverb, these Debut 100Rs are designed for pedals. Therefore, we’ve just got a 3-band EQ mated to that ISF control, overall volume and gain controls. No fuss, just less or more noise, bass or less bass. Easy.

Thanks to the twin 12-inch speakers, you’ll be able to load up all of your loved pedals, without the worry of crackling or breakup in the output.

There’s also a series effect loop, which welcomes aboard your pedals. Furthermore, the 212 comes with an additional footswitch to switch between, or disable the built in reverb.

Pricing and Availability

These Debut 100Rs will soon be available from *Thomann and worldwide. I can see these being used by a lot of gigging guitarists, who need a strong enough amp that doesn’t break the bank, their back or ears.
