T-De-Esser 2 by Techivation takes this awesome free de-esser plugin to another level! Also in this week’s collection of the best free plugins: an extremely easy-to-use compressor by ToneLib and a great little pitch shifter by Vox Samples.
Techivation T-De-Esser 2: The Best Free De-Esser Plugin?
Techivation has updated the already fantastic T-De-Esser plugin originally released in 2021. While it looks very similar at first glance, the new version improves upon the original in many ways.
Most importantly, Techivation T-De-Esser 2 now offers two new listening modes. Diff allows you to listen to the difference between the processed and original signals, so you can clearly hear what’s being removed. Filter lets you listen to the frequency range targeted by the plugin, which makes it easy to select the right range.
Furthermore, the new version offers a choice of four quality modes. By setting Oversampling to 2x, 4x, 8x, or off, you can achieve the perfect balance between audio quality and performance. There’s also a new Dry/Wet mix control. With these new additions, one of the best free de-esser plugins just got even better!
Techivation T-De-Esser 2 is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
ToneLib TL EasyComp: Quick and Easy Compressor
TL EasyComp by ToneLib is an easy-to-use compressor with just three knobs. The developer says that the plugin uses automatic algorithms to achieve effective compressor performance for virtually any type of signal.
The Sensitivity Knob adjusts the amount of compression, while the Speed knob lets you set the reaction time. There’s also a Make Up knob for adjusting the output gain, as well as a toggle switch for activating Auto Mode.
Furthermore, TL EasyComp features a Vocal Mode. According to Tonelib, this activates an efficient algorithm that brings vocals to the front of your mix with a single click. There’s even a fantastic animated visualizer that helps keep an eye on the input and output levels, as well as the gain reduction.
TL EasyComp is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST, VST3, and AU formats, as well as standalone.
Vox Samples Pitchmunk: Four-Octave Pitch Shifter
Here’s another one of Vox Samples’ colorful, animal-themed freebies. (We already featured Fat Cat, Pixel Rabbit, Time Turtle, and Fire Boy.) Pitchmunk is an easy-to-use pitch shifter that changes your sound’s pitch without altering the playback speed. With 48 semitones of range, it allows for some pretty drastic pitch effects. You can also adjust the formant, or set it to follow the pitch.
Moreover, Pitchmunk also includes a filter, overdrive, and mix knob, so you can create some pretty wacky vocal sounds without reaching for additional plugins.
Pitchmunk is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
