Samsung details One UI 6.1.1 features, compatibility with older models

Samsung‘s new foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, run One UI 6.1.1 out of the box. Based on Android 14, the new One UI version brings camera improvements and new Galaxy AI features. As expected, the company will push those to eligible older foldables, tablets, and flagships. An official post on Samsung’s community forum in South Korea details all the new additions and specifies compatible older models for each new feature.

One UI 6.1.1 lands with more AI magic and camera features

One UI 6.1.1 added auto zoom support for Flex Cam to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. When capturing photos in Flex Cam, the hands-free camera mode where you unfold the device at a near-90-degree angle and use the cover screen as a viewfinder to capture photos with the rear cameras, the device uses AI to determine the positioning of people and pets in the frame. It then automatically adjusts the magnification level to produce the best shot.

Samsung says this feature will be available on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with the One UI 6.1.1 update. The 2023 Flip will also get Flex Camcorder, a new camera mode on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 where you similarly unfold the device and hold it like a camcorder to record videos with its rear cameras. The company says this feature enables convenient one-hand recording. These two Flex Mode camera features aren’t available on the Fold series, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung’s Instant Slo-mo feature now supports HDR10+ format. It also offers quick action buttons to save and share the segment immediately watched in Instant Slo-mo. These improvements are coming to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9. These devices, and the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Flip 4, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy S22, and Galaxy Tab S8, will get new Generative AI features like Portrait Studio, Sketch to Image, Live Effect, and Motion Clipper.

New features for Expert RAW

Alongside the stock camera app, One UI 6.1.1 adds new features and improvements to Expert RAW, Samsung’s pro-grade camera app for high-end Galaxy phones. Among those is DNG editing or RAW editing in the Galaxy Photo Editor. Introduced on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, this feature will arrive on the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, Fold 4, Flip 4, Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Tab S9, and Tab S8 in a few weeks.

Samsung has yet to reveal its One UI 6.1.1 update roadmap. Older foldables and tablets might get it by the end of July. Rumors say the Galaxy S24 series will receive its next major feature update in August. It should bring the One UI 6.1.1 features (the update may still be One UI 6.1) and more camera improvements. Samsung is also expected to begin Android 15/One UI 7.0 public beta testing in August. Exciting times are ahead for Galaxy users!
