Galaxy Z Flip 6 key features & upgrades detailed in massive leak

You thought Galaxy Z Flip 6 leaks could not get more detailed? Think again, as prolific leakster Evan Blass is here to prove you wrong. He recently shared what looks to be Samsung‘s official product page for the new foldable. It details the key features, upgrades, and specifications of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, leaving no mystery for next week’s Unpacked.

A major camera upgrade and IP48 rating

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 brings several noticeable upgrades. The one that stands apart is the primary rear camera. Samsung has replaced the aging 12MP shooter with a newer 50MP camera. It has an F/1.8 aperture and captures lossless 2x zoom photos thanks to an adaptive pixel sensor. The camera supports OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and records 4K UHD videos at 60fps (frames per second). It can capture FHD slow-motion videos at 240fps.

The other two cameras—a 12MP ultrawide lens on the outside and a 10MP selfie camera on the inside—are unchanged from the 2023 model. However, Samsung’s updated camera algorithm and new AI features should help improve the image quality. The upcoming foldable has the best cameras on a Flip ever. Samsung may have finally started listening to its customers, who have been calling on the company for a camera upgrade for Galaxy foldables.

The next major upgrade we see on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the IP rating. The new Flip boasts an IP48 rating, which makes it dust and water-resistant. The previous-gen model has an IPX8 rating, which doesn’t guarantee any protection against dust. Like the Flip 5, Samsung has used Armor Aluminum material for the Flip 6’s frame, while the cover screen has a protective layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to shield it from scratches.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 makes the cover screen more usable

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 doesn’t look much different from the 2023 model. It is marginally thinner (0.2mm) and has a slightly flatter frame. Otherwise, Samsung hasn’t retouched the design much. This means the 3.4-inch folder-shaped cover display and the 7.6-inch flexible inner display remain unchanged. The former is an IPS panel with a 720×748 pixels resolution, while the latter is a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with an FHD+ (2640×1080 pixels) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The display specs may be unchanged but Samsung has added new functionalities to the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s cover screen. The external screen can display the translated text when using the Galaxy AI-powered Interpreter, the AI tool that can translate spoken languages in real time. This allows the other person to see it easily without transferring the phone back and forth. Anything they speak is translated back and shown to you on the inner display. That’s pretty cool.

Earlier leaks have also suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 can simultaneously show three widgets on the cover display, aka Flex Window. Moreover, Samsung’s Chat Assist is accessible without unfolding the device. If you have an incoming message, you can reply directly from the cover display, leveraging the AI tool to curate the tone of your reply. This is on top of the existing features like the Flex Camera, which allows you to capture hands-free photos with the rear cameras.

A bigger battery is on the cards

Despite a slimmer build, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 packs a bigger battery than its predecessor. Samsung has equipped it with a 4,000mAh unit, notably larger than the Flip 5’s 3,700mAh battery. Coupled with a more power-efficient Snapdragon 8 gen 3 (For Galaxy) processor, the same chip powering the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the upcoming Flip should last significantly longer on a single charge. This leak doesn’t specify that charging speed but we don’t expect anything more than 25W.

That said, at least one previous leak hinted at 35W charging for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, so fingers crossed. Meanwhile, power users will rejoice to learn that the new Flip is getting a 12GB RAM variant to go with a more powerful processor. Storage options should include 256GB and 512GB. The phone supports dual SIM (physical+eSIM or dual-eSIM) with dual 5G standby and a wide range of 5G bands for compatibility with wireless networks globally.

Connectivity options include USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, Bluetooth v5.3, NFC, Wi-Fi 6E (still no Wi-Fi 7), and all major global positioning systems. The phone has stereo speakers and boasts all the basic sensors you expect on a flagship model. A bigger battery seemingly doesn’t add to its weight, with the official spec sheet saying the Galaxy Z Flip 6 weighs 187 grams. It is expected to come in Blue, Mint, Silver, and Yellow colors. Samsung launches the new Flip on July 10.
