The hip styling gives it away: Steinberg positions the new IXO series as portable audio interfaces for content creators. The two new interfaces offer direct monitoring and loopback functions for live streaming. Moreover, they connect via USB-C to Windows and Mac computers, as well as iPhones and iPads. Both offer sturdy metal enclosures, so they don’t break the first time you throw them into your backpack. And both are available in black or white, so you can choose the color that matches your other gear.

First up is the Steinberg IXO 12. The interface offers two inputs: one mic/line combo input with a Class-A IXO mic preamp and a Hi-Z instrument input. Both inputs are equipped with mute buttons, which is a rare feature in audio interfaces, but quite useful if you’re streaming live.

The loopback function lets you mix live audio from the inputs with a playback signal coming from the computer and merge the signal for broadcasting. The IXO 12 also features latency-free direct monitoring, so you can hear yourself in real time.

On the back is a pair of line outputs for connecting your monitor speakers. In addition to this, the IXO 12 offers a headphone output on the front side.

Steinberg IXO 22

The Steinberg IXO 22 steps it up a notch with two IXO mic preamps, so you can connect two microphones. The second input can also be used as a Hi-Z instrument input. In addition to the stereo line output, the IXO 22 offers a headphone output with independent volume control.

Both interfaces convert at up to 192 kHz / 24 bit. They come with Cubase AI and Cubasis LE, so you’re ready to go on the platform of your choice.
