The EarthQuaker Devices and Death by Audio Time Shadows II is the latest incarnation of the effect, updating the limited-run version from 2020. Do you need a Subharmonic Multi-Delay Resonator in your rig?
Time Shadows II
In 2020, EarthQuaker Devices and Death by Audio teamed up for the original incarnation of the Time Shadows. This was part of the celebrations for The Pedal Movie documentary, a film about pedal companies and the rapid growth in popularity of stompboxes in recent decades.
The original run was limited to 1000 units worldwide. EQD head Jamie Stillman says on the product page that he immediately knew he wanted to work with Death by Audio, as he appreciates their pedals more than anything. Time Shadows brought two modes and delay sounds that had not previously been heard from an effect pedal.
Now, Time Shadows II has been announced, extending the effect further.
Three modes, six presets, infinitely weird sounds
The EarthQuaker Devices and Death By Audio collaboration gets a supercharged sequel with the Time Shadows II. This effect pedal boasts more modes, functions, and a broader sonic palette than its predecessor, allowing guitarists to craft unique sounds.
One intriguing addition is the cryptic !¡ mode. This enigmatic setting unlocks a new world of sonic exploration, perfect for adventurous players who crave unexpected soundscapes. Experiment and discover this mode’s unique textures – a guaranteed journey into the unknown.
The DBA mode is based on a cryptically titled “multi-delay regenerating filter” – in terms of sound, this seems to be closer to a classic delay, with intense BBD colouration.
Modes
Time Shadows runs in two modes: Live and Preset. In the former, depending on the setting of the controls, the corresponding sound comes. In preset mode, the controls are virtually overwritten. Here, you have six preset places with the fourth potentiometer, where you can retrieve completely different settings for all three controls and the switch.
Who is it for?
For players seeking precise control, the EQD mode is a dream come true. This versatile mode functions as a powerful pitch-morphing fuzz delay filter. Sculpt swirling soundscapes, bend frequencies to your will and unleash a palette of sonic possibilities that will have you pushing the boundaries of your creativity.
The EarthQuaker Devices Time Shadows II is now available at Thomann* for €249.
