Last week, we got confirmation that Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy Watch FE soon. A regulatory certification revealed the marketing name alongside the Galaxy Watch Ultra. We now have official validation that the first-gen Fan Edition (FE) watch is on the horizon. The Korean firm has published support pages for the device on its website, which confirms an imminent launch.
Samsung puts up official support pages for the Galaxy Watch FE
Samsung will significantly expand its smartwatch portfolio this year. Alongside the regular Galaxy Watch 7 model, the company is readying the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch FE. The Ultra will be its most premium offering, while the FE model will be an entry-level proposition for people who want something better than the Galaxy Fit 3. The Galaxy Watch 7 will slot in between.
After a few contradicting reports, the UAE government’s regulatory body TDRA confirmed the names of the Ultra and FE watches. Samsung has now gone on to publish official support pages for the latter on its regional websites for Ireland, Latin America, and the United Kingdom. As usual, the pages currently only contain the device’s model number SM-R861. But it’s an indication of an approaching launch date.
Rumors say the Galaxy Watch FE is a rebadged Galaxy Watch 4, Samsung’s first watch to run Wear OS (the Galaxy Watch 3 was powered by Tizen OS). It isn’t a bad thing. The 2021 watch is still very capable. Of course, the new model will ship with the latest version of Wear OS and One UI Watch out of the box. The company could also offer a newer processor and a few other minor upgrades.
As far as the launch date is concerned, rumors point to a July 10 unveiling of the new watches. Samsung will host the mid-year Galaxy Unpacked in Paris, France. The Korean firm is traveling to the City of Love (it previously held Unpacked in the US or South Korea) because France is hosting the Summer Olympics this year (begins July 26), and Samsung is one of the biggest global sponsors of the mega sporting event.
New foldables will accompany the FE watch
Despite being the first-ever fan edition watch, the Galaxy Watch FE may be the least exciting product Samsung will launch next month. The company has many other devices in the pipeline, with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 being the two biggest headline-grabbers. The Galaxy Ring should also turn a few heads, while we are also respecting improvements with the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro.
