Samsung‘s upcoming premium smartwatch will be called the Galaxy Watch Ultra, a regulatory certification confirmed. The same regulatory agency also confirmed the Galaxy Watch FE name, which should be an affordable offering. These watches are expected to debut alongside the Galaxy Watch 7 series in July.
Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch FE names confirmed
Last month, we exclusively reported that Samsung has an Ultra-branded watch in development. We supposed it to be called the Galaxy Watch Ultra, though subsequent leaks and rumors referred to it as the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra. Then, all of a sudden, a Greek publication came along claiming that the company would name it the Galaxy Watch X. We had doubts over the accuracy of the report and we were right.
The UAE government’s regulatory body TDRA recently certified the upcoming Samsung smartwatch, divulging its marketing name and model number. It is the same model number (SM-L705F) we revealed in our exclusive report last month. Moreover, as we originally supposed, the watch will bear the name Galaxy Watch Ultra. It will be Samsung’s first-ever Ultra-branded smartwatch.
The FCC has also certified this watch. Spotted by MySmartPrice, the American regulatory body listed the US version of the device (SM-L705U) with 10W wireless charging support. This is weird because the standard Galaxy Watch 7 models boast 15W charging. Perhaps this listing doesn’t reflect the actual charging speed of the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The agency may have used a 10W charger but it will support 15W charging.
Recently leaked renders revealed that the Galaxy Watch Ultra will sport a squircle design reminiscent of the now-discontinued Gear Sport from 2017. The screen is circular, reportedly measuring 1.5 inches in diameter, but the body is squarish with rounded corners. Samsung is unlikely to redesign the standard Galaxy Watch 7 models similarly. They may sport the same circular design as the Galaxy Watch 6 series.
The Galaxy Watch FE could be a rebadged Watch 4
Alongside a premium Ultra watch, Samsung also has an affordable option in the pipeline. It bears the model number SM-R861 and is called the Galaxy Watch FE. Rumors say it is a rebadged Galaxy Watch 4 with some internal changes in hardware and software. If you recall, the Galaxy Watch 4 has the model number SM-R860. All of these watches are expected to debut at Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event. Rumored to take place in Paris, France on July 10, the event will also bring new Galaxy foldables, earbuds, and the Galaxy Ring.
