Three excellent e-Drum Kit Deals of the week for you featuring kits from 2BOX, EFNOTE and a super value Alesis bundle!
It’s a holiday weekend for those of us in the U.K. and the U.S.A. and what better way to idle away that extra leisure time than to peruse what might be your next e-Drum kit. And if you can save some cash at the same time, you can get your summer off to a great start!
2BOX Speedlight Kit
The 2BOX Speedlight kit sits nicely in the middle of the e-Drum market. It’s ideal as a starter kit or practice set. It’s built to withstand the rigours of playing live and features dual-zone drum pads and multi-zone cymbals. The ride features bell, bow, edge and choke detection.
The kit comes with everything you need to get started, including a hi-hat stand. That’s something that not every kit in this range comes with, so it’s great to see here. It would have also been nice to have a separate snare stand to avoid too much rack vibration.
The DrumIt 3 module is a very capable sound source. It features ‘Open Sound Architecture’ which allows the user to create their own multisampled sounds and upload them to the module. Built-in sounds include samples from such drumming legends as Marco Minnemann and Simon Phillips!
There’s also an extensive library of freely downloadable sounds available fron the 2BOX website. And you can also connect pads and triggers from other brands directly to the DrumIt 3 module.
EFNOTE 7X e-Drum Set
EFNOTE really up their game on their bigger sets, not that the lower end of their range is any slouch! Their kits ooze class and quality and the 7X is no exception. It comes as a 1-up, 2-down configuration. The smallest tom actually comes with its own floor stand. This completely eliminates any excess vibration when compared to a kick-drum mount.
Each drum is constructed from 6-ply birch and has a very lush wood grain finish. The snare features EFNOTE’s unique rim trigger and comes with its own stand. The 7X comes with an abundance of cymbal pads including a triple-zone ride and crash, as well as a perforated 17″ FX crash. There’s also an 8″ splash which is uncommon and very welcome.
The drum module, as I have often said, is a beautiful thing. Its minimalist design means that everything is done on-screen with the help of a singular knob. It comes packed with multilayered drum sounds, organised into 20 preset kits. Users can then add 80 of their own.
It also has a super-useful 8 Out/2 in USB audio interface for easy tracking into a DAW. There’s also physical and Bluetooth MIDI and audio for all-round connectivity. My only quibble is the lack of a hi-hat stand which, at this price range, should be compulsory.
Alesis Surge Mesh Special Edition Bundle
Alesis are the kings of affordable, entry-level e-Drum kits. This amazing bundle deal, based around their Surge Mesh Special Edition Kit, is the pick of the starter-pack bunch. It’s an 8-piece e-Drum kit with a sturdy tubular rack that comes with everything you need to unbox and play right away!
First up, the kit itself comprises five drums and three cymbals. Everything apart from the kick and hi-hat is dual zone, with the crash and ride also featuring choke functions. All drums are, as the name suggests, mesh headed for great feel and a super-quiet action.
The drum module is feature-packed with 385 sounds, 24 preset kits and space for 16 user configurations. There’s room to add more pads and all the required audio and MIDI ins and outs, including USB. There’s 60 internal songs and a metronome for those practice session.
Included with the kit in this bundle is a Millenium MDT4 circular drum throne which is height adjustable and double braced for sturdiness. Also included is a pair of t.bone HD200 closed back headphones so you don’t upset your parents/partner/neighbours! Finally, you get a great pair of Vic Firth hickory American classic 5A drum sticks.
