Ever since the debut of emergency satellite communication services on the iPhone 14 in 2022, Android users have been waiting for the same. This is going to change with the roll-out of the stable version of Android 15 later this year. We’ve been seeing reports regarding the satellite messaging feature for Android devices for quite some time. Now, it appears that Android 15’s satellite messaging feature will debut soon as it has already started appearing for some T-Mobile users.
Android 15 beta 2 brings the satellite messaging option to some T-Mobile devices
According to a report by Android Authority, several users running the latest Android 15 beta version on their T-Mobile devices are now being informed about satellite messaging capability. A handful of T-Mobile users have shared the new satellite connectivity menu of their devices running Android 15 beta.
The new satellite messaging functionality on T-Mobile Android devices can be accessed through settings. The users need to navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs >T-Mobile to find the feature. The new settings page for satellite connectivity is showing by default in the Android 15 beta 2 version.
“You can send and receive text messages by satellite as part of an eligible T-Mobile account,” reads a message on the new settings page. “Your phone will auto-connect to a satellite. For the best connection, keep a clear view of the sky” reads another. As of now, we don’t have many details regarding what T-Mobile plans are supported for the service.
The satellite messaging feature will be bundled with select T-Mobile plans
The user who has posted these screenshots has a subscription to T-Mobile’s Magenta plan. So we can safely assume that Magenta users will likely get free access to Android 15’s satellite messaging feature. We can expect more details in the coming weeks.
The presence of satellite messaging in Android 15’s setting menu all but confirms that it is coming to T-Mobile users very soon. It’s worth mentioning that this feature will initially be available for Google Pixel users once it rolls out.
