Well, Google has released probably one of its most controversial products to date. This is the new AI Overviews feature that the company announced during Google I/O. Well, if you want to disable AI Overviews, there’s a handy Chrome extension you can use.
Yes, you heard that right! You have to use a Chrome extension to disable AI Overviews, as Google did not offer a native way to disable the function. If you have a Google account, chances are that you’re seeing AI-generated search results, and that is not sitting well with most people. The company has been flooded with requests to disable the feature, but it has yet to acknowledge this.
Obviously, many people whose businesses rely on ad revenue from web traffic do not like this feature at all. It poses a major threat to their income, and undoubtedly, many of them will have to shut down because of this.
There’s a Chrome extension that people can use to disable AI Overviews
The most upsetting part about this is the fact that Google does not even give us the option to disable it. This is despite the negative response that the company is getting from numerous people.
Well, if you don’t want to see AI-generated search results, there’s a way to block them. However, this is only for the web version of Chrome.
You’re going to need to install the Chrome extension Hide Google AI Overviews. If you’ve never used Chrome extensions before, it’s simple to install it. Once you click on the link, you’ll be taken to the extension’s homepage. On that page, click on the Add to Chrome button you have near the top right of the screen.
Once you do that, you will see a pop-up appear confirming whether you want to install the extension. It will also tell you what sort of permissions it will require. If you add the extension, you are giving it your permission to read and change your data on all Google sites. If this isn’t something that you want, then you may want to pass this up.
Once you install the extension, you will be able to access it from your extension toolbar. From here, you will be able to pin it to your toolbar or disable it.
