Rotterdam-based Synthux Academy is showcasing a line-up of Simple Touch synths at Superbooth 24. And once you let yourself be drawn in by the shiny metal plates and twisty knobs, you’ll have a hard time leaving the booth. This thing isn’t just loads of fun – it also sounds great!

More Information

Powered by a Daisy Seed microcontroller, the device can be anything: bass, string, or drum synth, looper, sampler, or effect. Like other tiny groove setups like the volcas or Pocket Operators, Simple Touch is the most fun if you use several of them at once. But even a single unit can deliver an impressive array of sounds.

By swapping the firmware over USB, you can turn the device into a new instrument in the blink of an eye. Thanks to the open-source architecture, the Synthux community constantly comes up with new uses. Synthux even offers swappable faceplates for the most popular instruments – Touch Bass, Touch String, and Touch FX.

In addition to the 12 touch-sensitive plates, there are six knobstwo faders, and two switches. Depending on the firmware, these can do all sorts of different things. Besides a stereo output, there’s a stereo input, which is great for recording, sampling, or using the device as an effect.

Price and availability

Simple Touch is available pre-assembled or as a DIY kit. The pre-built version costs €179 plus tax; the full kit is €119 plus tax. If you want to source the parts yourself, you can also purchase just the PCB. By the way, Synthux Academy is a non-profit organization; all profits go into the development of new devices and various educational projects.

You can find Synthux Academy at booth W345.
