Gibson has been working with Slash for a long time, so this limited-run Slash 1963 ES-335 Vintage Sunburst model is no surprise. They are making only 50 Murphy Lab-aged models, complete with a Bigsby B7 vibrato and a customised pair of unpotted Custombucker pickups constructed with Alnico 2 magnets.

Orgy of the Damned

To get one, you’ll need to call the Gibson Garage and part with $14999. You’ll also get to attend a VIP experience at the Gibson Garage Nashville, where Slash and his blues band will treat attendees to an intimate live performance and signing event. This is all part of the celebrations for his new album Orgy of the Damned, and so expect plenty of blues licks and pentatonic runs.

Case Candy

Each of the limited-run guitars also comes with some nice case candy, including a signed copy of Slash’s new album, Orgy of the Damned, a signed copy of The Collection: Slash coffee table book, and a Certificate of Authenticity. The case is a vintage-style black Lifton case with a yellow lush interior.

The Guitar

The 1963 ES-335 Vintage Sunburst model has aged nitrocellulose lacquer and vintage-correct specifications, including a 3-ply maple/poplar/maple semi-hollow body with a solid maple center block. It has a SlimTaper 60s profile mahogany neck and an Indian rosewood fretboard with small black aged celluloid fret markers, 22 frets, and a nylon nut.

MSRP – $14999

Verdict

It is a great-looking vintage-style ES-335, and the finish looks nice and deep. Yes, you are paying the ‘Slash tax’ for this model. However, I think it will definitely hold its value, and it does come with some pretty exclusive add-ons included in the price tag.
