iOS 18 will land rather soon. The company could unveil it in June during WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference). Unlike other iOS updates that brought about iterative changes, iOS 18 is expected to be the most prominent for iPhones in years. We already know the update may bring many on-device AI smarts to iPhones. It’s currently in talks with OpenAI about using its model. Per a recent development, iOS 18 may revamp some other apps in the process.
The familiar and the new
A Bloomberg newsletter by Mark Gurman shed some light on Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 revamp. The new software changes outlined in the same point to a massive overhaul for some of the most popular iOS apps, including Mail, Notes, Photos, and Fitness. While Gurman didn’t dive into any specifics, it’s clear that buyers upgrading to iOS 18 will have their hands full trying updated apps and services.
The news comes days after it was reported that the new AI features on iPhones will be processed on-device or locally. Since the features will not require cloud processing, they will work quickly and efficiently. That’s not all; iOS 18 will allegedly offer a more customizable home screen interface, too.
While we don’t know what that means 100%, users could arrange the icons on iOS 18 more ‘freely.’ Consequently, users may be able to add ‘transparent’ filler icons to fill up blank spaces and rows.
Apple plans to unveil a range of iPads before WWDC
Apple is also planning to unveil a new lineup of iPads on May 7th. The tech company sent invitations for its “Let Loose” event, featuring the iconic Apple Pencil on the invite. The company could announce two iPad Pro and two iPad Air models. The Pro iPads will reportedly offer faster processing speeds and improved graphics horsepower, whereas the Air variants will feature the company’s tried-and-tested M3 chipset.
