Studio Deals
Perhaps it’s time to upgrade with a new workhorse condenser mic or audio interface? Remember this is a great year for deals, with the Thomann 70th Anniversary Sale running. Meanwhile, let’s take a closer look at our Studio Deals selection.
KRK GoAux 3
When you need a set of monitors on the road, the KRK GoAux 3 is a great compact solution. Its design uses a 3-inch woofer (22W) and a 1-inch tweeter (8W), delivering a maximum SPL of 95.5 dB.
The left speaker provides all the necessary connectivity including minijack and RCA inputs. In addition, its rear panel also gives you access to Bluetooth 5.0 pairing functionality and corrective EQ settings.
Meanwhile, the GoAux 3 system also ships with a set of acoustic decoupling stands and a carry bag for getting them from A to B.
AKG C214
Recording vocals, guitars, and detailed instruments like handheld percussion can be tricky. However, the AKG C214 is inspired by a line of legendary condenser mics, so it’s up to the task.
Its dual-diaphragm design uses a 1-inch evaporated-gold capsule based on the famous CK12. This means you can capture the nuances of any performance, with great definition and clarity in the midrange and glistening high frequencies.
In addition, the C214 ships in a foam-lined protective case and includes a windshield and the H85 shock mount.
Tascam Model 12
If you need analogue inputs, the Tascam Model 12 is a great solution for your home recording studio or rehearsal space. The six mono and 2 stereo channels are each equipped with one-knob compressors and 3-band EQs, so you can manage each instrument.
In addition, there are two aux sends per channel and a pair of sub-outputs. This allows you to use external effects and create monitor mixes when tracking.
Moreover, the Model 12 functions as a 24-bit 48 kHz audio interface and offers a standalone SD card recorder. Overall, features like the extensive digital effects section and master EQ make it hard to beat in this price range.
Universal Audio Apollo Twin DUO USB Heritage
The Universal Audio Apollo Twin DUO USB Heritage is a 24-bit 192 kHz USB 3.0 desktop interface with a dual SHARC DSP processing engine. In addition, it’s equipped with a pair of Unison mic preamps, allowing modelling of a wide range of preamps.
If you use a load of compression and EQ plug-ins in your DAW, the DSP engine can free up your CPU for other creative tasks. What’s more, the vast selection of different UAD plug-ins opens up creative possibilities.
Until April 30, when you purchase selected Apollo Desktop audio interfaces, you’ll get over $1800 worth of free plug-ins. These include the Fairchild Tube Limiter Collection, the Teletronix LA-3A Classic Leveler, and more.
SSL Bus+
The SSL Bus+ is a wildly versatile solution for mixing applications. Moreover, it expands on the design of the famous console bus compressor, giving it far more utility in the modern DAW workflow.
Its four operating modes allow you to use it as a stereo, dual-mono, or mid-side processor. In addition, the Σ S/C stereo mode uses compression based on a summed mono signal.
The Bus+ also offers a 2-band Dynamic EQ, a Transient Expander, and a selection of three different flavours of compression. These include 4K, Low THD, and F/B mode.
