The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have started receiving their final update. These two smartphones, which launched back in 2020, have reached the end of life (when it comes to updates).
The OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro are now getting their final update
Both devices were launched in April 2020, which means it has been exactly four years since then. OnePlus promised four years of support, and the company fulfilled that promise with the April security update.
They were promised to receive three major Android updates and four years of security updates. Both phones are currently running Android 13 now, while they launched with Android 10. As already mentioned, the April 2024 Android security update has started rolling out.
The update is marked as OxygenOS 13.1.0.587. Its rollout is starting in India, but it will soon spread to other markets. This update doesn’t seem to bring anything else than the security patch. However, it is noted that it boosts both security and stability. So perhaps some general patches are included too.
OnePlus also released a statement to reflect on the OnePlus 8 journey
OnePlus also released a statement recently, which you can see below. The company reflected on the OnePlus 8 journey, and thanked its users for their “tremendous support along the way”.
Do note that this update is rolling out in stages, of course. That goes for basically every OTA update. You will all get it, but it may take a while to find its way to everyone, so be patient. Keep in mind that it didn’t start rolling out outside of India just yet.
Your phone will let you know once the update is ready. You can manually check too, though, if you feel inclined to do so. Simply open the Settings, and go to the System portion. There you’ll need to tap ‘About device’. From there, find OxygenOS, and check whether the update is available or not.
