WhatsApp Communities will become more useful thanks to the option to create events. The new feature will facilitate the management of events between members of different communities.
“Communities” is a feature designed to bring people together based on topics. It is different from the Groups feature since you can even have multiple groups within each community. The idea is similar to that of Discord channels but with fewer possibilities. Curiously, WhatsApp also offers “Channels”, although with a very different operation.
However, as of today, there is no option to create events in Communities. Taking into account the spirit of the feature, it would be quite useful to be able to do so. That said, it seems that this will change soon. As spotted by WABetaInfo, you will soon be able to create and manage events in WhatsApp Communities.
This is how the “Create event” option for WhatsApp Communities will work
According to the report, the option to create events will be available from the file attachment menu in a community group chat. You can set different parameters for each event, such as name, date, description, location, or even if it will require a voice or video call. Once created, members of the group chat will be able to accept or reject the invitation. Those who accept it will begin to get notifications and updates related to the event.
You can also edit the event parameters initially set. Those who have accepted the invitation will receive notifications about these changes so that they are up-to-date. As with messages, there is end-to-end encryption for events.
Currently, the option is available in the latest WhatsApp beta app (2.24.9.20). However, it appears to be in limited testing, so you may not have the option available even using that version. The source adds that the company is also working on event creation in normal groups. So, it seems that this feature will become an important part of WhatsApp in the future.
