Sony has just officially confirmed the rumored ‘special Xperia event’, and that is likely the Xperia 1 VI launch date. An image surfaced yesterday, showing May 17 as a launch date of some sort, saying it’s a special Xperia event.
The Xperia 1 VI will likely launch next month, as Sony confirms ‘special Xperia event’
Well, it turns out that the shared image was made by Sony after all. Sony just shared that same image via the Sony Japan website, its official website. May 17 is a Friday in case you’re interested, and teh image once again doesn’t mention the Xperia 1 VI.
However, Sony doesn’t really have many Xperia devices that it would throw events for. Also, it’s the season for Sony’s new flagship smartphone, so the Xperia 1 VI launch seems like a logical solution here.
We’ve exclusively shared the Xperia 1 VI images quite recently. The phone will be shorter and wider than its predecessor, as Sony seems to be changing display aspect ratios. It’s moving from 21:9 to 19.5:9, it seems.
The phone will retain a similar design, but it will be shorter and wider than its predecessor
The phone will still retain the Xperia design that we’re used to buy now. Sony will stick to slightly thicker bezels in order to avoid using a display camera hole or a notch. That’s something many users appreciate.
It will also stick to flat sides with chamfered edges. Three cameras will be placed on the back, in the top-left corner. They will be vertically-aligned, and Sony’s logo will also sit on the phone’s backside.
We’re expecting to see a 6.5-inch display on the device. That display will be flat, though Sony could ditch the 4K resolution. The company is rumored to make a switch to a QHD+ panel this time around.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will fuel the Xperia 1 VI, almost certainly. The phone will be made out of metal and glass. It is expected to measure roughly 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4mm, in case you were wondering.
