This week on Guitar Gear Gems, we look at the new Schecter Freak Juice Traditional signature model for guitarist Tori Ruffin. Then we look at the new Great Eastern FX Co. XO Variable Crossover pedal. Finally, we look at the latest Solar Guitar’s Chop Shop model, the Chrome Canibalismo.
Schecter Freak Juice Traditional
This Schecter Freak Juice Traditional is an HSH Strat-style signature model for Tori Ruffin. Ruffin is known for collaborating with artists, including Prince and Michael Jackson.
It comes in a citrus-themed finish called Juice Burst. The guitar has an alder body and a vintage C-profile roasted hard rock maple neck fitted with 22 X-jumbo frets. The neck has orange and yellow dots, with a lemon at the 12th Fret.
Pasadena
It comes with the Schecter USA Pasadena Plus and Pasadena Classic humbuckers, which have a Nick Johnston Atomic single-coil in the centre position. There is a push/pull tone control for coil split, standard volume control, and a 5-way pickup selector switch.
Hardware includes a Wilkinson Two-point Tremolo System and Schecter locking tuners on the reverse headstock.
MSRP – USD 1299
XO Variable Crossover
The Great Eastern FX Co. XO Variable Crossover pedal allows users to combine multiple effect pedals via two dedicated effects loops. Each has a variable crossover, which splits the signal into high- and low-frequency bands, allowing users to affect the high and low end of the signal separately.
Tilt-EQ
The pedal has a tilt-EQ that boosts high or low frequencies while adjusting the centre frequency. Users can also blend in a certain amount of dry signal. The controls consist of Crossover Frequency, Range (guitar/bass toggle), Phase, Send Flip, Return Balance, and Dry Blend.
It is a very powerful pedal that takes your existing effect pedals and allows you to use them in completely new ways.
MSRP – GBP 229
Solar Chrome Canibalismo
The Solar Guitars Chrome Canibalismo is the latest model from their Chop Shop collection and has a unique metal finish. It is designed to age slowly and oxidize as you play, giving it a distinct and one-off aesthetic.
Construction
The guitar has an alder body, a three-piece roasted maple neck, an ebony fretboard with 24 frets, and Luminlay side dots. The hardware includes a Floyd Rose 1000 bridge and a set of Solar locking tuners.
Pickups for the model are the Seymour Duncan Dual Rail in the neck position and a Solar Modern bridge humbucker.
Ola Englund’s guitar company is constantly developing new ideas for finishes, and this latest metal-finished guitar is a standout model. The Solar Guitar’s Chop Shop in Madrid, Spain, is building all these to a high specification, so they should be excellent players.
MSRP – USD 2199
