The Mooer Prime S1 is a compact, lightweight multi-effects unit with Bluetooth control via an app and a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery. However, it lacks physical controls, so is it viable or just a toy?

Mooer Prime S1

These Mooer Prime S1 have been floating around on the internet for a few months (unofficially). They offer many functions in a compact form factor and only weigh around 350g. The features include 128 onboard effects and tone presets, an 80-second looper, and a rhythm section that offers 40 drum machines and ten metronomes. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides around 4.5 hours of playing time to make it even more travel-friendly. This can be recharged via the USB-C port on the rear of the unit.

App Control

The main issue for many could be the lack of physical controls on the unit itself. It uses the Mooer Prime app to edit and play with the onboard sounds. Four assignable footswitches allow users to access the tones, but further tweaking would require a Bluetooth-connected smart device to access the virtual controls.

Stereo Out

Users can send the signal out in stereo, which is a plus. The Prime S1 also allows access to virtual amp/cab IRs via the Mooer Cloud app. Essentially, this portable multi-effects has a lot going for it, as long as you don’t mind using a smartphone to control the finer details when creating or editing the patches.

The rear panel also features a headphone out and a volume control, which could be great tools for perfecting your guitar playing silently.

Affordable

These new multi-effects are affordable; therefore, I can see them appealing to anyone who needs something portable, compact, and with various tones available. At this low entry price, they have a lot to offer, and some users have already uploaded reviews online to say they are a lot of fun to use.

They could be just what you need and will be available to order at Thomann within the next few days.
