This week on Guitar Gear Gems, we examine the new limited edition EarthQuaker Devices Pyramids Solar Eclipse, Stereo Flanger. We also look at the Danelectro 58 Red Hot Longhorn short-scale bass. Finally, we checked out the Chase Bliss Mood MKII firmware update and limited edition design.
EarthQuaker Devices Pyramids Solar Eclipse
This EarthQuaker Devices Pyramids Solar Eclipse is a limited-run paint job for their popular stereo flanger effect pedal. Apart from the limited “Solar Eclipse” artwork, this package also included a pair of solar eclipse glasses.
It was created to celebrate the upcoming total Solar Eclipse on April 8th 2024, over Akron, Ohio.
Key Features
The pedal has eight variations of Flanger effects, including Classic, Through-Zero, Barber Pole up or down, Trigger up or down, Step, and Random. It also has a tap tempo, tap subdivision, a multifunction Modify control, positive and negative Feedback, and a variable Mix control.
Danelectro 58 Red Hot Longhorn Bass
This new Danelectro 58 Red Hot Longhorn Bass is a short-scale vintage-style bass with high-output lipstick pickups. It uses the 59 Dano High Output Lipstick Single Coils, which have a high impedance, to create its distinctive bass tones.
58 Style
The bass has a Masonite top, a poplar body frame, and a centre block. The stunning red finish will make this model stand out, paired with the black back and sides. This model has a 29.75″ short-scale maple neck with a pau ferro fretboard fitted with 24 frets.
It will pair nicely with the recently announced Fifty Niner models as well.
Chase Bliss Mood MKII Firmware Update
The Chase Bliss Mood MKII has had a recent firmware update, adding a few excellent features to the effect pedal and a new limited alternate finish that they have named the “Light Bright” edition. It’s a one-time run, but Chase Bliss has made 2000 in this limited new look.
Firmware 1.1 adds Stretch
The new updated firmware adds the Stretch mode, which is taken from the original MOOD. This has what Chase Bliss describes as a soft, cloudy character that they thought was impossible to replicate on MOOD MKII for various reasons. However, they worked it out, and it is now available for the MOOD II version of the effect.
Everything else is exactly the same. It only affects Stretch when you’re in Classic mode, so you get both the wispy sound of the original and the more defined sound of the newer MOOD MKII. A neat little update which makes it even more fun.
