The Everly Brothers pioneered early Gibson acoustic guitars. You may lack the solid harmonies, but now you can get hold of this Gibson J-180.

Gibson and Legendary Rock Duo

Induced into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, The Everly Brothers started topping the charts back in 1957! Throughout the decades, Don and Phill played a pair of matching Gibson acoustic guitars.

Returning to the custom shop artist lineup, the Gibson J-180 is back on the market. Complete with all the features that make these J-180 guitars so instantly recognizable.

Gibson J-180 Jumbo Body

Visually, we have a jumbo body on this Western-style guitar. Furthermore, the body is maple with a Sitka Spruce top. Naturally, is also faithful to original units with traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing and multi-ply binding.

The Everly Brothers’ music was renowned for beautiful vocal harmonies, accompanied by seamless rhythm guitar work. Such can still be achieved thanks to L.R. Baggs VTC preamp. Moreover, there’s an under saddle pickup. Therefore, you’ll be able to enjoy this plugged-in, or fully acoustic.

Custom Headstock

Headstock with 2-Ply Truss Rod Cover

Here, we’ve got a fully adjustable truss rod, masked by the bespoke 2-ply engraved ‘EVERYLY’ cover. Moreover, we can see one of the many mother-of-pearl graduated star feet inlays, giving this a real 1950s look.

Furthermore, the slim taper neck houses 20 standard frets sitting upon an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. We’ll also find Grover Rotomatic tuners.

Gibson J-180: Cathy’s Clown?

Regarding price and availability, you can grab one of these from *Thomann straight away. Sure, you get a certificate of authenticity with your purchase, but is it worth it for the price?

If you’re after a faithful fifties acoustic sound, and have someone to sing harmonies with, then go for it! It even comes with a hardshell case. At this price, I would sure hope so. For me, this J-180 is undoubtedly a collector’s item that will sit in someone’s studio looking cool.
