OpenAI has once again taken a step forward by announcing to AI the release of a new feature that could be a game-changer chat users in the form Custom instructions. This feature enables users to Personalize ChatGPT in a way that matches their individual preferences and requirements. Plus plan users can start their journey with this feature today, and it’s set to roll out to all users over the next few weeks.
“We’re rolling out personalized instructions to give you more control over how ChatGPT responds. Set your preferences, and ChatGPT will keep them in mind for all future conversations.”
It should be noted that unfortunately the new Personalized Help feature is not yet available in the UK or Europe. As soon as more information is available on when this takes place, we will keep you updated as always.
How to enable custom ChatGPT help
Accessing this innovative feature is now simple and easy to use. For web users, the journey starts from logging into ChatGPT, once logged in, go to Settings, then Trial Features, and finally sign up for Custom Guidelines. For iOS users, it leads the way through Settings, then New Features and turning on Custom Tips.
- on the web, tap your name → Settings → Beta Features → Subscribe to personalized help. Custom instructions will appear in the list when you click your name from now on.
- on iOSGo to Settings → New Features → Turn on Custom Help. Custom instructions will appear in Settings.
The custom instructions option will now be visible in your menu or settings, depending on your platform. However, during the trial period, you may notice some limitations in interpretation – ChatGPT may sometimes not fully understand your instructions, or may apply them when not necessary.
Improve user experience
One of the common points of user feedback addressed by OpenAI is the burden of having to start every ChatGPT conversation from scratch. This feature represents an important step towards reducing this friction. Interactions with users from 22 countries helped OpenAI understand the critical role addressability plays in adapting AI models to diverse contexts and unique user needs.
So, how is this optimization implemented in practice? The custom help feature will remember your instructions and apply them to every conversation in the future. This means that you will not have to repeat your preferences or personal details in every chat.
Imagine you are a teacher creating a lesson plan for third grade science students – you don’t have to repeat this context every time. Or you could be a software developer preferring efficient code in a language other than Python – mention it once, and ChatGPT will get the message. Even when planning grocery shopping for a large family, the template can automatically calculate the servings of six on the grocery list. Check out example screenshots below.
Custom Help is a powerful tool for ensuring that your ChatGPT experience is truly personalized. They provide the flexibility to set the chatbot’s preferences and requirements that guide its responses. This innovative feature aims to give users more control over how ChatGPT generates its responses. OpenAI describes it as a mechanism.Consider your preferences for all future conversations.”
Custom Help and Extras
The dedicated Help feature also improves your experience with the various plug-ins. If you share relevant information in your Help, plug-ins you use can access and use that information. For example, if you share your city in your Help and use a plugin to make restaurant reservations, ChatGPT can automatically include your city when interacting with the plugin.

OpenAI’s new Custom Help feature promises a more personalized, intuitive, and effective experience for all ChatGPT users. Whether you’re a teacher, developer, or just someone who plans weekly groceries, ChatGPT’s custom Help can help serve you better.
