The new Apple Mac Pro was unveiled at WWDC 2023 last week, and now it has been revealed that there is a hard drive problem in the new Mac Pro. Apple appears to be aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

The Mac Pro comes with SSD storage, although it also has SATA ports for adding in SATA hard drives, this is clearly the cause of the problem, some models cause SATA hard drives to disconnect after the machine wakes from sleep .

Apple said this will be fixed in a future software update, but also provided a temporary workaround until the problem can be fixed in an update, and Apple said it stops your device from sleeping. This can be done by going to Settings > Displays > Advanced and selecting “Prevent auto sleep when screen is off”. You can see what Apple has to say about the issue below.

“Certain models of internal SATA drives may unexpectedly disconnect from your computer after your Mac wakes from sleep,” Apple said. This can happen if your Mac goes to sleep automatically or if you put your Mac to sleep manually. If you see a message that the disk was not ejected properly, you can restart your Mac to reconnect the drive.”

As of now there are no details on exactly when Apple will release a software update to fix this issue with the new Apple Mac Pro, although we assume it should be released sometime soon, once we have more information we’ll let you know.
